This Pain

I climb into bed beside you

Place my head upon your chest

And listen to your broken heart

Beat a mourner's procession

I kiss away your tears

Taste the salt sting on my lips

And stem the rivers tide

Upon your cheeks

I wrap my arms around you

Hold you securely

As you fall into

A million pieces

I breathe in your despair

Draw in breath so deep

That you shudder

For want of air

I would do anything

To remedy this pain

Carry it for my own

But you will not let it go
